Hasso Plattner Institute
The Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) in Potsdam is Germany’s university excellence center for digital engineering (https://hpi.de). With its bachelor‘s and master’s degree programs in “IT Systems Engineering,” the Faculty of Digital Engineering, established jointly by HPI and the University of Potsdam, offers an especially practical and engineering-oriented study program in computer science that is unique throughout Germany. The focus of HPI’s teaching and research is on the foundations and applications of large, highly complex and networked IT systems. In addition, HPI concentrates on the development and research of user-oriented innovations for all areas of life.
Prof. Dr. Erwin Böttinger chairs the research group in the Digital Health – Personalized Medicine department, which focuses on mental health, back pain and cardiovascular medicine, as well as on the application of digital technologies for precision health and personalized medicine. Within Smart4Health, Prof. Dr. Erwin Böttinger takes on the role of the scientific/technical coordinator with the support of Antonia Winne, M.Sc., project manager and leader of the work package 4Health services and applications layer implementation. HPI is responsible for the overall scientific management of the project and representing the project in that capacity, as well as overseeing and adjusting the strategic development of the project, ensuring alignment between the work package leaders and follow-up on gaps.
The HPI team in Smart4Health also encompasses a senior and three junior researchers, a developer and a communication manager. The HPI team coordinates the communication and exploitation activities within the consortium, manages the helpdesk and assistance hubs, and oversees the Innovation Core Team. The main efforts of the HPI team are on the technical and scientific work to prepare, realize, run and investigate the Smart4Health platform and possible personalized health services, in close collaboration and coordination with the development partners.
