However, Smart4Health may <\/em>collect a handling fee from the respective researchers.<\/span><\/p>\n For reasons of transparency, data used for scientific publications of results generally needs to be published. Using your data for health research means that researchers will access your data within the Smart4Health research platform<\/strong>, combine it with data provided by other users, and analyse it together with tools running on the research platform to find answers to various health research questions. The research is performed by researchers who have a Smart4Health research platform account and who have their research project approved by the DAC. The results of these analyses are exported from the research platform to be shared and discussed with others. Your provided health data itself does not leave the Smart4Health research platform without your explicit consent.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”5. Who decides which research uses your data? ” _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content” open=”off”]<\/p>\n We do not offer the possibility to select the kind of research or the research fields that you want to support through providing your health data. As we cannot anticipate what future health research questions may arise, not all health research purposes can be described at the time you provide your data. Research can refer to whole areas of disease (e.g., cancer, cardiovascular diseases, brain diseases) as well as to specific diseases and to changes in the genetic substance that are still partly unknown today. This means that your health data may be used for research questions that we cannot foresee today. <\/span><\/p>\n While we cannot anticipate what type of health research your data may be used for, in the declaration of consent, you may choose to be contacted about research projects that used your data and\/or to receive general scientific results related to your data. <\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”6. Alternatively, you can decide to allow the automatic provision of future data<\/strong> using the MyScience App<\/em>. This means the application will automatically share new data that you have created in the background. You will receive a notification of the successful provision as a push-message or email according to your preferences.<\/span><\/p>\n This applies to new data that matches your selection in step 3 (see question 2 above). This includes the required core set of data and, if you want, optional health data. <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”7. Under which circumstances does your health data leave the Smart4Health research platform?” _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content” open=”off”]<\/p>\n You can choose whether or not the data you provided to the Smart4Health research platform is also transferred to the European infrastructure for life science information (represented by its national node for Luxembourg, ELIXIR-LU). In this case, the data is anonymized<\/strong> before it leaves the research platform. The receiving research groups and their databases may be located in countries outside of the European Union (EU). Only researchers who meet the strict data access conditions outlined in question 3 can access the data. <\/strong>The responsibility and supervision of the data lies with the receiving institution, which ensures a level of data security and compliance measures equivalent to those established in Smart4Health.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”8.\tWhat are the risks associated with providing your health data?” _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” theme_builder_area=”post_content” open=”off”]<\/p>\n The data stored in the Smart4Health research platform is systematically separated from your name and other personal identifiers. However, whenever data is provided to a researcher, there is a risk that private information is disclosed. This risk always exists, but we have implemented procedures to minimize it. <\/span><\/p>\n The unique code linking your data to your identity is stored separately and securely within your encrypted personal account on the Smart4Health platform and can only be accessed by you. Any attempt to identify you from the provided health data is prohibited by law and impracticable in practice as we ensure that it would require a disproportionate amount of time, expense and labor.<\/p>\n If you agree to provide pseudonymized data to the Smart4Health research platform or anonymized data to ELIXIR-LU, it is important to remember that pseudonymization and anonymization of your health data can never completely rule out the possibility of re-identification by drawing on other data sources.<\/span><\/p>\n In case your private information has been misused, you could experience harms, such as stress, anxiety, stigmatization, or embarrassment from revealing information about your family relationships or health conditions.
