Summary“ open=“on“ _builder_version=“4.16″ _module_preset=“default“ global_colors_info=“{}“ theme_builder_area=“post_content“] <\/p>\n If you choose to provide your health data that is <\/strong>collected in your Smart4Health account, <\/em>it is de-identified before it is shared with the Smart4Health research platform<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 a separate database of the project. De-identified means that any information that could potentially identify you is removed and your name is replaced with a unique code that is kept secure in the MyScience App. You can choose which data you want to provide. Researchers outside of the project are, after a process of approval, allowed to access the Smart4Health research platform and do their research with your de-identified data. Your health data will never leave the Smart4Health research platform without your permission<\/strong>. Data can leave the platform only if you explicitly agree to that option in the declaration of consent at the end. You may also make decisions related to the automatic provision of future data, and for which reasons, if at all, you want to be contacted by a research team.<\/p>\n Research insights that are gained from using your health data substantially contribute to the goals of health research<\/strong>. Using your health data for research means that:<\/p>\n If you provide your data for research, you may choose to be contacted by us regarding:<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=“2. What kind of data do we ask you to provide?“ _builder_version=“4.16″ _module_preset=“default“ global_colors_info=“{}“ theme_builder_area=“post_content“ open=“off“]When providing your health data for research<\/strong>, we ask you for a core set of data<\/strong> that includes the following information, if available: <\/strong><\/p>\n If you agree to share your health data, the list above will automatically be shared, depending on what is available in your Smart4Health account.<\/p>\n You can also provide additional optional health data<\/strong>, depending on your personal preferences, which you can define in the MyScience App. [\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=“3. Who can access your data for health research? “ _builder_version=“4.16″ _module_preset=“default“ global_colors_info=“{}“ theme_builder_area=“post_content“ open=“off“]Access to the data is controlled and researchers will need to have their research project approved. Researchers from universities, research institutions and commercial companies can submit an application to the Smart4Health Data Access Committee<\/strong><\/a> for consideration to gain access to your health data for health research purposes. Data access to the research platform is restricted to researchers from EU countries or from countries where the EU has determined that adequate data protection measures are in place.<\/p>\n The researchers may not pass on the access to the data or the data itself. The data must not be used for other purposes than those spelled out in the application to the Smart4Health Data Access Committee.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The collaboration of research institutions and commercial companies is necessary for the development of new medical products, systems and procedures. Excluding commercial companies would hinder the improvement of disease prevention, treatment and care. Each request is reviewed by the Data Access Committee and access is granted only if the research contributes to medical progress and complies with National Research Ethics requirements<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n Your health data will be used exclusively for scientific purposes and will not be sold<\/strong>. However, Smart4Health may <\/em>collect a handling fee from the respective researchers.<\/p>\n For reasons of transparency, data used for scientific publications of results generally needs to be published. This happens exclusively in a form that does not allow any conclusions about or links to your identity<\/strong>.[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=“4. How is your data used? “ _builder_version=“4.16″ _module_preset=“default“ global_colors_info=“{}“ theme_builder_area=“post_content“ open=“off“]Your health data will only be used for health research. Using your data for health research means that researchers will access your data within the Smart4Health research platform<\/strong>, combine it with data provided by other users, and analyse it together with tools running on the research platform to find answers to various health research questions. The research is performed by researchers who have a Smart4Health research platform account and who have their research project approved by the DAC. The results of these analyses are exported from the research platform to be shared and discussed with others. Your provided health data itself does not leave the Smart4Health research platform without your explicit consent.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=“5. Who decides which research uses your data? “ _builder_version=“4.16″ _module_preset=“default“ global_colors_info=“{}“ theme_builder_area=“post_content“ open=“off“]We do not offer the possibility to select the kind of research or the research fields that you want to support through providing your health data. As we cannot anticipate what future health research questions may arise, not all health research purposes can be described at the time you provide your data. Research can refer to whole areas of disease (e.g., cancer, cardiovascular diseases, brain diseases) as well as to specific diseases and to changes in the genetic substance that are still partly unknown today. This means that your health data may be used for research questions that we cannot foresee today.<\/p>\n While we cannot anticipate what type of health research your data may be used for, in the declaration of consent, you may choose to be contacted about research projects that used your data and\/or to receive general scientific results related to your data.[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=“6. How can you provide additional data for research?“ _builder_version=“4.16″ _module_preset=“default“ global_colors_info=“{}“ theme_builder_area=“post_content“ open=“off“]Whenever you have new personal health data stored in your Smart4Health platform<\/em> you can also provide this data for research using the MyScience App <\/em>by repeating steps 3 to 6 explained in question 2 above. Alternatively, you can decide to allow the automatic provision of future data<\/strong> using the MyScience App<\/em>. This means the application will automatically share new data that you have created in the background. You will receive a notification of the successful provision as a push-message or email according to your preferences.<\/p>\n This applies to new data that matches your selection in step 3 (see question 2 above). This includes the required core set of data and, if you want, optional health data.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=“7. Under which circumstances does your health data leave the Smart4Health research platform?“ _builder_version=“4.16″ _module_preset=“default“ global_colors_info=“{}“ theme_builder_area=“post_content“ open=“off“]You can choose whether or not the data you provided to the Smart4Health research platform is also transferred to the European infrastructure for life science information (represented by its national node for Luxembourg, ELIXIR-LU). In this case, the data is anonymized<\/strong> before it leaves the research platform. The receiving research groups and their databases may be located in countries outside of the European Union (EU). Only researchers who meet the strict data access conditions outlined in question 3 can access the data. <\/strong>The responsibility and supervision of the data lies with the receiving institution, which ensures a level of data security and compliance measures equivalent to those established in Smart4Health.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=“8.\tWhat are the risks associated with providing your health data?“ _builder_version=“4.16″ _module_preset=“default“ global_colors_info=“{}“ theme_builder_area=“post_content“ open=“off“]The data stored in the Smart4Health research platform is systematically separated from your name and other personal identifiers. However, whenever data is provided to a researcher, there is a risk that private information is disclosed. This risk always exists, but we have implemented procedures to minimize it.<\/p>\n The unique code linking your data to your identity is stored separately and securely within your encrypted personal account on the Smart4Health platform and can only be accessed by you. Any attempt to identify you from the provided health data is prohibited by law and impracticable in practice as we ensure that it would require a disproportionate amount of time, expense and labor.<\/p>\n If you agree to provide pseudonymized data to the Smart4Health research platform or anonymized data to ELIXIR-LU, it is important to remember that pseudonymization and anonymization of your health data can never completely rule out the possibility of re-identification by drawing on other data sources.<\/p>\n In case your private information has been misused, you could experience harms, such as stress, anxiety, stigmatization, or embarrassment from revealing information about your family relationships or health conditions. Neither provision nor non-provision of data for research will have an impact on the concrete medical treatment you may be receiving. Furthermore, if a commercial benefit is derived from the research, e.g. through the development of new drugs or diagnostic procedures, you will have no rights in the results and will not receive a share in the profits.<\/p>\n Once enough data has been accumulated to conduct studies, you can see at any time what kind of research is being carried out with your data or the data of other users on <\/strong>https:\/\/smart4health.eu\/research and in the MyScience App<\/strong>. You can change your contacting preferences also later in the MyScience App.<\/p>\n The contacting can be done:<\/p>\n Please note: even if you are being contacted for a study on a specific condition, this does not mean that you have this condition, but only that your profile fits into the study design, e.g. as member of the control group. <\/em><\/p>\n Only researchers who have been approved by the Data Access Committee can raise a contacting request via the MyScience App. They never know your identity and you do not have to engage with the request. If you decide to participate in studies outside of the research platform, you are redirected to an external website or software that is not under the reliability of the data controller.<\/em>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=“12.\tHow can you withdraw your consent? “ _builder_version=“4.16″ _module_preset=“default“ global_colors_info=“{}“ theme_builder_area=“post_content“ open=“off“]Providing data for research is voluntary. You can withdraw your consent to provide health data for research at any time, without consequences for you. You can do this in whole by revoking the consent, or in part by changing individual statements of your consent.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n The withdrawal only refers to the future<\/strong> use<\/strong> of your health data. Data cannot be removed from completed and ongoing projects or if anonymized data has been transmitted to ELIXIR-LU as we cannot trace them back to you.<\/p>\n If you choose to withdraw your consent to the research platform, your health data that has been stored based on this consent will be anonymized, by erasing the code that has been assigned to you. This anonymized data will not be used for any future research within the Smart4Health research platform. It will remain accessible for a duration of 10 years for completed and ongoing research projects to ensure that research results can be reproduced. However, as we explained in the Risk section (see point 1.9), anonymization of your health data can never completely rule out the possibility of re-identification by drawing on other data sources.<\/p>\n You can also change individual parts of the declaration of consent without withdrawing it in whole. For example, you can change your consent preferences if you wish to continue to make the health data available to research but no longer have interest in being contacted for study participation. It will remain accessible for a duration of 10 years for completed and ongoing research projects to ensure that research results can be reproduced.<\/p>\n The optional provision of health data to ELIXIR-LU is unaffected by the project end, meaning anonymized health data that was already provided to ELIXIR-LU remain on their premises.
