Current research studies lack consideration of comparative cost-outcome metrics as well as detailed cost components in their analyses. Nonetheless, the positive economic impact of EHR based CDS interventions is highly promising, especially with regard to reducing waste in healthcare.

The Smart4Health (S4H) software application will empower EU citizens to manage, analyze, and exchange their aggregated electronic health data. In order to provide such a service, basic features are needed to ensure usability, reliability, and trust. The CEF building blocks implement such functionalities while complying with EU regulations. This report examines the current status and applicability of the CEF building blocks for the envisioned S4H software application.
The major findings of the report are that (1) most CEF building blocks are currently not ready to be applied without further implementation efforts and (2) the S4H-specific use cases and user needs, to which the single CEF building blocks correspond, must be clarified. Open questions raised in this report need to be answered before a clear analysis can be made. Moreover,
the functionalities of CEF building blocks aim at the matured product, while for the first version of the S4H software application basic implementations suffice. Still, concepts need to be elaborated of how the sample implementation of CEF building blocks or suitable alternative applications can be included into the system at a later point.

Smart4Health project is a European project aiming to empower citizens with electronic health(care) record exchange,
personal connected health services, and the ability of data donorship to the scientific community. The Smart4Health
platform will enable citizens to manage, collect, store, access and share own health and healthcare data, at international level,
through an easy-to-use, secure, constantly accessible and portable health data and services prototype within the EU and
beyond. This shall also comprise self-quantified and citizengenerated data through IoT and wearables (e.g. smart watches,
smart devices/textiles/shoes). Therefore, the citizen will not only be able to access data produced in the context of health systems,
but become important contributor of health data more generally speaking. The information to be collected will feed the
Smart4Health platform (4HealthPlatform – 4HP), enabling the Smart4Health user portal (4HealthNavigator – 4HN) services
and applications to provide advanced personalised health services accessible whenever and wherever. In this paper we
explore the work being developed for data integration coming from different smart devices aiming at enriching the citizen
health and personal data as well as providing insight about citizen behaviour and support on how to modify/adapt postures and habits that may contribute for better health and wellbeing.

The weakness of the deep layer of lumbar or cervical spine muscles (so-called multifidus muscles) is among the most common causes for backpain. Frequent testing and measurements over a 20 years period of time showed a common weakness of this particular muscle group in more than 70% of investigated persons. Following a routine training has demonstrated an effective improvement in low back health. The Smart4Health project aims at empowering EU Citizens with an interoperable and exchangeable European Electronic Health Record (EHR) that will allow EU citizens to be active participants in managing their own health. As part of project activities, Smart4Health will upgrade existing physiotherapy devices with real-time measurements and connectivity capabilities, meeting new medical device regulations. Force and angle sensors measurement technology will be connected and integrated in the Smart4Health framework, enabling the patient with a real-time performance visualization and the treatment data upload for a secure cloud. The clinicians can then keep track of the patient treatment and made the necessary adjustments (if needed). The physiotherapy device and its sensors are connected over a secure network, enabling the data collection of health-related data. Moreover, an intelligent sensors network collecting citizen health and wellbeing data, adds information to citizen’s EHR.
